Thanks to all of you who sponsored me in the American Diabetes Association 2004 Tour de Cure! I raised over $2320!Big news! This was the first New Orleans event with over 250 riders and the first to raise more than $100,000! Congratulations to the Top Fundraiser, Sid Seruntine. This year, Sid has raised over $25,000 and he hasn’t stopped yet! Since his involvement with ADA, Sid has raised over $100,000! WAY TO GO SID!These riders all raised more than $3500: Ashton Page, Niels Busse, Sid Seruntine and Hal Morrow. This is a pretty good level to achieve -- they all receive a complementary 4-day cruise! The ride took place April 17th & 18th with a leisurely ride between Bay Saint Louis, MS and Biloxi, MS. Bay Saint Louis is about a 45 minute drive from New Orleans. We had fantastic weather -- partly cloudy, cool in the morning and highs in the low 80's. There was a 200 mile and a 200 kilometer option (actually 131 miles). I couldn't get enough training in and took the "shorter" option. All in all, it was a really fun ride! As you can see from the pictures at the bottom of the page, I'm smiling even at the end of the ride. There were a few low points, as one might expect after twelve hours in the saddle, but all-in-all, the route was nice, the volunteers enthusiastic and the riders fun to be around! And I have to tell you that it was a fantastic workout. After the first night, I ate three plates of pasta and vegetables at the banquet and I still had a "normal" blood glucose level after dinner. I ate more pasta that night than I've eaten in the past year! TelemetryHere's some technology for you. I was wired with a GPS and a heart rate monitor, and you can actually see where I rode, how fast and how hard I was working. If you click on either of these maps, you can look at interactive maps and detailed statistics on my ride. Day 1 (Bay St. Louis to Biloxi)Day 2 (Biloxi to Bay St. Louis)Gallery
